Michigan urges motorcycle riders to wear fluorescent gear to be seen on the roads
'Ride Safe to Ride Again' campaign ads roll out on TV, radio, Internet
Michigan is encouraging motorcycle riders to wear fluorescent gear to help them get noticed by others on the road.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning has launched an ad campaign urging riders to use fluorescent red, orange, yellow and green gear with reflective trim to be easily spotted by drivers during day and night.
The state says more than 10 percent of traffic fatalities in Michigan each year involve motorcycles. Motorcycle fatalities increased 18 percent last year to 129. More than 90 percent of riders killed in crashes are male.
The "Ride Safe to Ride Again" ads are rolling out on television, radio and the Internet in the Detroit area and western Michigan.
