NYC Wants More Landlords To Make Buildings Smoke-Free
$10,000 reward offered
The latest efforts to curb smoking in New York City is raising some eyebrows.
Several New York media outlets are reporting that Mayor Bloomberg is offering community groups at $10,000 bounty for convincing buildings in the city to go smoke-free.
The New York Post called the plan “a secret assault on smoking”.
The plan comes on the heels of Bloomberg’s push this spring to force residential buildings to disclose their smoking policies and procedures to potential buyers and renters. At the time, Bloomberg insisted that he had no intention to institute an outright ban.
The Bloomberg administration insists the campaign in educational in nature and that no one trying to force people to stop smoking in their own homes.
