Man pulls driver from burning car at Schoenherr, 12 Mile roads in Warren

WARREN, Mich. -

David Tuer There was a frightening car crash Tuesday morning at 12 Mile and Schoenherr roads in Warren.

A speeding car had crashed and split in half. But a witness sprung into action and pulled the injured driver away from the burning wreck.

The man who now is being called a hero, David Tuer, just happened to be traveling northbound on Schoenherr Road when he witnessed the crash.

"When I got here I saw half of the car in the middle of the intersection and the other half of it was over on the side of the road," Tuer said. "As we were moving him the flames started getting higher and higher. But my main concern was the guy."

After Tuer pulled the driver away from the burning car he used his shirt to tamp out fire on the man's clothing.

"I didn't know if he had a spinal injury or anything so I held his head so he couldn't move his spine too much," Tuer said.

Tuer is in the middle of a 5-year run with the Navy. He ships out Tuesday night for a trip to the far east. Even on his last day home, he did not hesitate to help.

Warren car crash 2 "I just hope that someone else would do that for me if they saw a fireball down the street," he said. "Rush toward the situation. See what's up. See if you need to be ... just help someone out. That's what I was doing. Just helping someone out."
