New trial date set for Detroit contractor accused of bid-rigging federal projects

Bobby Ferguson returns to court in August after mistrial

DETROIT – Prosecutors will re-try Detroit contractor Bobby Ferguson and two others for allegedly conspiring to rig contractors for federally-funded projects.

A judge declared a mistrial last week when the jury could not agree on a verdict. But during a hearing Tuesday a new trial date of Aug. 21, 2012, was set.

Ferguson was charged with fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice. He's accused of obtaining millions of dollars in public works contracts through false statements and bid collusion.

He's also accused of making false statements in a proposal as part of the Garden View Estates project, a public housing development in Detroit.

Ferguson faces a separate trial in September with Kilpatrick and Kilpatrick's father, Bernard.
