Oakland County's top elected official is resting following a second surgery to repair injuries from a two-car crash last week in suburban Detroit.
The office of L. Brooks Patterson said in a statement that Monday's surgery was part of the original treatment plan for the 73-year-old. The statement released Tuesday said Patterson was resting comfortably and doctors at McLaren Oakland Hospital reported that the surgery went well.
Patterson underwent surgery Friday to repair broken bones. He also had a gash to his scalp.
Patterson's leased Chrysler 300 was being driven by a 60-year-old former state police trooper, who suffered serious injuries.
Police say they weren't wearing seat belts. Three others, including the driver of the Volkswagen Passat that struck Patterson's vehicle Friday, also were hurt.
The crash is under investigation.
