Five crew members of a US Airways flight were taken to a hospital Tuesday night because of an unknown odor on the plane.

Flight 720 from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Rome was diverted to Philadelphia International Airport after flight attendants began getting ill, said Bill McGlashen, an airline spokesman.

In Philadelphia, the plane was evacuated, passengers were put on a new plane and the crew members were taken to a hospital, where they were treated and released, McGlashen said. Authorities were trying to determine what caused the odor on the plane, he added.
