Organizers are planning a Paczki Run 5K race in Hamtramck on Saturday

Participants who finish inaugural race get Polish pastries, beer

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. -

Runners will be able to race for the paczki in Hamtramck this weekend.

The inaugural Paczki Run 5K is scheduled for Saturday in the Detroit enclave.

Organizers say participants can feel better about eating those paczki. Or they simply can run the route to scout out their favorite places to purchase them.

Each person who finishes the race receives one of the sugary, pre-Lenten Polish pastries and a beer.

The Paczki Run is presented by Tour de Troit in partnership with the Hamtramck Downtown Development Authority.

Runners will receive a T-shirt with the colors corresponding with paczki flavors: blueberry, apricot, strawberry or chocolate.
