Patrick Mikes Jr. stood mute Wednesday afternoon as he was arraigned on charges of open murder in the death of his father, Patrick Mikes Sr.
A not guilty plea was entered for the 21-year-old in Oakland County Circuit Court.
The younger Mikes is accused of beating his father to death with a baseball bat in their Troy home in late July and then reporting his father disappeared after going out for a bike ride.
The father's body was found in early August in a farm field in Genesee County.
Patrick Mikes Jr. will have his next court appearance on Jan. 9 for a pretrial hearing.
His attorney is reportedly planning to appeal a judge's rejection of a request to have a psychiatrist examine Mikes in jail.
