Phony fundraiser scams by selling fake Detroit church raffle tickets

Police say woman is going door to door selling tickets for fake autism fundraiser

DETROIT – A Detroit church is warning residents to keep an eye our for a woman selling raffle tickets for a bogus fundraiser, and then pocketing the money.

The Solanus Casey Center in Detroit says the woman has been going door to door, using the church's name for her scam, and he doesn't want anyone else to become a victim.

"We concerned that people take our name and use it in an illegitimate way," said Father Larry Weber with the Capuchins. "You should see on the ticket a state license for the raffle."

Father Larry says the next big fundraiser for the Solanus Casey Center isn't until February.

Police describe the woman sell the tickets as a white female driving a black sedan with orange and gold rims. She was last seen on East Warren in Detroit.

Local 4 has learned the woman selling the tickets has been spotted at a local bowling alley and a couple of restaurants.

Anyone who has seen this woman is asked to call Detroit police.
