(CNN) -

A string of bombings across Iraq killed five people and wounded more than 30 others, police said Thursday.

A car bomb exploded on a busy road in Mahmoudiya about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Baghdad, killing two and injuring five more, according to police.

Wednesday evening, two car bombs and a roadside bomb exploded outside a bar and a liquor store in the northern Iraqi town of Bashiqa. Police said the explosions killed three people and wounded 28 others.

Bashiqa, a community located in Nineveh province, is inhabited mostly by Yazidi people. They are among Iraq's smallest minorities.

The Yazidis are of Kurdish descent, and their faith is considered a pre-Islamic sect that draws from Christianity, Judaism and Zoroastrianism.

Daily violence has drastically dropped across the country since 2008 but sporadic shootings and explosions continue.
