Police break ground today in a new search for the body of Jimmy Hoffa -- the labor strongman with alleged ties to organized crime.
His disappearance is one of the most notorious and mysterious in U-S history.
It's believed he was killed by the Mob, but his body was never found.
Ed Payne reports.

POLICE WILL DRILL OUTSIDE A SUBURBAN DETROIT HOUSE TODAY IN THE SEARCH FOR JIMMY HOFFA'S BODY.
A TIPSTER TOLD POLICE A BODY WAS BURIED AT THE SPOT IN ROSEVILLE, MICHIGAN, AROUND THE SAME TIME THE FORMER TEAMSTERS BOSS DISAPPEARED IN 19-75.
THE BURIAL SITE IS UNDER A CONCRETE DRIVEWAY.
POLICE SAY THEY ARE *NOT* EXPECTING TO FIND HOFFA'S BODY, BUT THEY'RE GOING TO FIND OUT FOR SURE.
We do believe that he may have seen a body being interred and as a result of that we did the ground penetrating radar that showed an anomaly. We're gonna take it to the next step and test for human remains and if that does in fact happen then we'll uh, you know, we'll start to excavate.
A FORMER F-B-I ASSISTANT DIRECTOR -- WHO RAN THE AGENCY'S ORGANIZED CRIME PROGRAM FOR FIVE YEARS -- GAVE HIS ODDS OF HOFFA'S BODY BEING FOUND THERE.
I would say pretty close to zero.
Because it's not consistent with the techniques they used. If they wanted to dispose of a body when they killed somebody, first of all they wouldn't do it in a shallow grave under somebody's driveway, second of all, they wouldn't do it in front of a witness.
HOFFA WAS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL UNION LEADERS AT A TIME THAT UNIONS WIELDED A GREAT DEAL OF SWAY OVER ELECTIONS -- AND WERE NOTORIOUSLY TIED TO ORGANIZED CRIME.
THERE'S BEEN A NUMBER OF SEARCHES FOR HIS BODY OVER THE YEARS. TIME WILL TELL IF THIS WILL BE THE FINAL ONE.
I'M ED PAYNE REPORTING.

Drilling is set to take place at 10:00 a-m (Eastern).
The soil sample will be sent to a University of Michigan forensic anthologist.
The reading will determine whether there are human remains at the site, but will not identify them. The results are expected next week.
Meanwhile, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters issued a statement saying the Hoffa family does not respond every time a tip is received by authorities.
It also said the FBI keeps the family informed and they will have no comment until there is a reason to comment.
