DETROIT – Wayne County communities are a little safer after an illegal after-hours operation is shut down in Detroit. Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Wayne County Sheriff's investigators executed a search warrant in the 10000 block of Joy Road. The raid resulted in:
• At least 160 individuals cited (80 males, 80 females)
• At least 6 may be cited as operators of an illegal establishment
• Some arrested for outstanding warrants
• Several dozen vehicles impounded
• 6-8 handguns, one assault rifle recovered
Officials are continuing to investigate the scene. The raid was in response to complaints about noise and after-hours illegal alcohol sales. The 160+ individuals cited for loitering in an illegal establishment will be charged with misdemeanors. Those charged as operators of the illegal activity face felony charges. Investigators believe this particular blind pig has been running for months.
"We will not tolerate blind pigs in neighborhoods. The residents have a right to peace and quiet, not the loitering, partying, illegal alcohol sales and crime that comes with running this type of operation," said Sheriff Benny Napoleon. "I will continue working to eliminate this nuisance so families can reclaim their community."
