A march is planned from Detroit to the state Capitol in Lansing this month to protest legislation related to voting in Michigan as well as the state's emergency financial manager law.
The July 23-27 march is organized by the Michigan chapter of the National Action Network.
The voting bills are aimed at tightening state election laws. Backers say they would protect against voter fraud and critics say they would create obstacles to voting.
The emergency manager law allows the governor to appoint people to run poor cities and school districts. Managers have authority to cut spending, sell assets and tear up contracts.
