SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials are hosting a public meeting in South Haven to discuss a consulting firm's report on safety at the Palisades nuclear power plant.

The Wednesday night gathering takes place at the Beach Haven Event Center. Officials with New Orleans-based plant owner Entergy Corp. are scheduled to describe how they have responded to findings in the report.

The NRC designated Palisades as one of the nation's four worst-performing nuclear plants after two safety violations last year, one of which forced a weeklong shutdown. The plant is in Van Buren County's Covert Township.

The commission is conducting a follow-up inspection at the plant to determine whether operators have made needed corrections. Spokeswoman Victoria Mitlyng says a team will spend 11 days at the plant, beginning Sept. 17.
