ROYAL OAK, Mich. -

The Rainbow Connection Walk for Kids is coming to the Detroit Zoo next month.

The Rainbow Connection is a charity that makes dreams come true for Michigan children facing life-threatening illnesses. It's similar to Make-A-Wish Foundation, except it serves only Michigan children who are 30 months to 18 years old.

This year's walk is set for Sept. 8.

Hundreds of walkers and other volunteers raised $133,000 at last year's event.

Participants are invited to enjoy the zoo's exhibits free of charge for the rest of the day.

The Jackson family of Oakland County's White Lake Township is the Wish Family Ambassador for this year's walk. Eleven-year-old Blake Jackson was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma when he was a toddler.

Blake and his family went to Walt Disney World in 2003.
