Legislation that will limit the power of unions in Michigan has been given final approval by the House and Senate.
It is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Rick Snyder.

Union leaders say they will be able to undo the legislation by statutory initiative.
According to the Citizens Research Council of Michigan, opponents of the law would have to file petitions with signatures of registered voters equal to eight percent of the total votes cast in the last gubernatorial election. The legislature would then either enact or reject the petition. If approved it would be placed on the ballot for the general election ballot in 2014.
Existing contracts are dues collected through them would exempt from the new law until those contracts expire.
