Reverend Jesse Jackson joined community leaders in Detroit Sunday.
The reverend, along with Emmy-award winning pastor Marvin Winans, Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, Congressman John Conyers and a full congregation at the Perfecting Church on Detroit's east side called on the president and congress to revive the ban on assault weapons.
The call for the ban comes in response to the mass shooting at the Aurora, Colorado movie theater that left 12 dead.
In late August, the organization Rainbow PUSH Detroit will hold a march in support of the ban. The march is scheduled for August 25.
