Roadway to honor West Michigan police officer who died after being run over last year
Trevor Slot killed on I-96 in Ottawa County while helping to stop bank robbers
A roadway will honor a West Michigan police officer who was run over and killed by two suspects fleeing from a bank robbery.
WOOD-TV reports the Walker City Commission has approved a proclamation dedicating part of Remembrance Road to Trevor Slot. MLive.com reports the roadway is where Walker public safety and city offices are located. A dedication ceremony is Saturday, a year after Slot's death.
Walker Public Safety Director Catherine Garcia Lindstrom says it's a "great honor" for Slot.
The 41-year-old Walker officer was killed Oct. 13, 2011, while laying down spike strips to stop a speeding sport utility vehicle on Interstate 96 in Ottawa County after the Muskegon County robbery.
The suspects crashed after Slot was hit. They were fatally shot by police when they fired at officers.
