DETROIT -

The Michigan Film Office says a movie that Ryan Gosling is directing with shooting expected in Detroit has applied for state tax incentives.

The movie is called "How to Catch a Monster," and the state film agency is reviewing the tax-break request.

Mlive.com says that Gosling and the film's producers are holding an online casting call for some of the film's key roles. It's expected to hit theaters in 2014.

As an actor, Gosling now appears with Josh Brolin and Sean Penn in the Warner Bros. organized crime movie "Gangster Squad."
