PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Pittsfield police are actively searching for a man they say robbed a woman and shot her in the head.

The incident happened Friday at the Golfside Lake Apartments in the 4900 block of Lakeridge Drive.

"This is actually a safe community compared to a lot of the other ones around here," said Doyle Collins who lives at Golfside Lake.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman had been shot in the head during an apparent robbery.  The woman was rushed to the hospital where she received treatment for the gunshot. She has now returned home where she is recovering.

Ann Arbor Police conducted a K-9 search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, thin build, about 5'8" tall, clean shaven, bald or closely shaven hair, wearing a blue or black hoodie and dark colored pants.

Officers discovered the suspect may have been near the AATA bus stop located at Washtenaw Avenue and Golfside Road prior to the incident.

Individuals utilizing the AATA along with those in the area of Washtenaw Avenue and Golfside Road are asked to be alert and vigilant at all times.

The Golfside Lake apartments are also considering bringing back their neighborhood watch program because of the attack.

"If I were living closer to Ypsilanti I would be a little more concerned, but this is generally speaking a nice neighborhood you know I don't see a lot of problems around here," said Collins. "It will make me be a little more weary later at night while I'm walking by myself or walking back from work."

Police said the wanted man may live in the area, but officials with the apartment complex said he is not a tenant.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery and shooting is asked to call the Pittsfield Police Department at 734-822-4911, or the confidential tip line at 734-822-4958.
