The gun control debate is back in the spotlight after 20 students and six adults were killed Friday at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.
Many lawmakers are calling for the renewal of the federal assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004 at the end of its 10-year term.
Andrew Spencer has the story.

AS THE VICTIMS ARE REMEMBERED WITH CANDLELIGHT VIGILS, CHURCH SERVICES, AND MEMORIALS, THE DEBATE OVER GUN CONTROL IS HEATING UP.
PRESIDENT OBAMA OFFERED WORDS OF COMFORT TO THE PEOPLE OF NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT DURING A MOVING MEMORIAL SERVICE SUNDAY NIGHT. HE ALSO SAID SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE.
We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change.
POLICE SAY WHEN HE CARRIED OUT THE MASSACRE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.. ADAM LANZA WAS ARMED WITH A SEMI-AUTOMATIC AR-15 ASSAULT RIFLE MADE BY BUSHMASTER AND TWO PISTOLS.
ALL THE WEAPONS WERE LEGALLY PURCHASED BY HIS MOTHER.
ON NBC'S MEET THE PRESS, CALIFORNIA SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN SAID SHE WANTS TO CHANGE THAT.
I'm going to introduce the bill in the senate and the same bill will be introduced in the house. A bill to ban assault weapons.
TEXAS CONGRESSMAN LOUIE GOHMERT OFFERED AN OPPOSING VIEW ON FOX NEWS SUNDAY. GOHMERT SAID THINGS MIGHT HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL HAD A WEAPON.
So when she heard gunfire she pulls it out, and she didn't have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands but she takes him out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids.
FUNERALS FOR SHOOTING VICTIMS NOAH POZNER AND JACK PINTO, BOTH SANDY HOOK STUDENTS, WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON.
