Residents of an east side Detroit apartment building are upset because trash has been piling up outside.
People living at the Eltavar Apartments on East Grand Boulevard the smell is terrible and a rat problem is growing.
Neighbor Adrian Harris said the scene outside her window is terrible.
"I can't even lift up my window with the smell and so many flies are here. Flies are landing on my daughter and she is crying," Harris said.
Residents say the problem has been around for more than a month and they are getting fed up.
The Church of the Messiah Housing Incorporated owns the building. Executive director Joan Moss said the trash buildup was due to a financial problem for the struggling development.
"We were unable to pay the waste fee for the one development, So the company we use stopped picking up the trash for all of our properties," Moss said.
The Church of the Messiah said late Thursday all fees for the trash pickup had been paid, except for one property. However, the president of the waste company did agree to pickup the trash for the residents of the Eltavar Apartments.
