Spirit adds flight to DFW
Spirit Airlines will add one daily non-stop flight to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport from Detroit Metropolitan Airport starting this June.
The flight will leave Detroit at 8:30 p.m. and arrive in Dallas at 10:15. Return flights leave Dallas at 4 p.m. and arrive in Detroit at 7:40. This is Detroit's first low-cost carrier flight to Dallas.
To entice passengers to use the new service, the airline is offering fares from $28.79 Tuesday and Wednesday on its website.
The service is expected to give Detroit travelers more bang for their buck. It now costs about $200 to get to Dallas, which is 1,000 miles away. It costs about $143 to get to Denver, which is $1,123 miles away.
However Spirit's expansion doesn’t come without some competition. In September, Southwest is adding routes to Las Vegas. Spirit returns by doubling its flights to Orlando.
“More competition is good for consumers and these are all large markets for Detroiters,” said Tom Naughton, Interim CEO of Detroit Metro and the Wayne County Airport Authority “With around 80 percent of seats filled these days, often the only way for more people to travel is to get more great service like this.”
In addition, DMA will resume non-stop service to Paris this summer.
