MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

State police say three female hikers in Michigan's Upper Peninsula found a badly decomposed body.

The Mining Journal in Marquette reports that hikers made the discovery about 50 feet from the water's edge of a bog.

Police say they were called to the scene around Wetmore Pond in Marquette County's Marquette Township on Thursday night.

The bog is about seven miles north of downtown Marquette.

An autopsy was planned to determine cause of death and identify the body.

Additional information wasn't immediately released.
