U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin will visit a southwestern Detroit school to promote physical fitness.
Benjamin is meeting with students Friday at Munger Pre-K to 8 School to promote physical fitness. She's appearing in support of the National Prevention Strategy, a plan to help increase the number of healthy citizens.
She and the students are expected to eat a meal that includes Michigan-grown acorn squash. Benjamin also plans to lead a community "Surgeon's General Walk" around the school.
Dearborn-based ACCESS -- formerly known as the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services -- says it's participating in the event. The organization serves residents in the area.
