DETROIT – It's advice men might want to take on the chin: a new study found women don't find beards attractive.
Scientists in New Zealand and Canada showed 200 women pictures of men with full beards. The women were then shown pictures of the same 19 men after they had shaved. Researchers said the women rated the clean-shaven look as significantly more attractive.

There is some good news for guys who are fond of their facial hair - having a beard commands respect, particularly from other males.
When other men were asked their opinion, they said that men pictured looked older and angrier when bearded.
Both men and women said bearded men are perceived to have a higher social status and command more respect from other men.
The results suggest that beards are a sign of masculinity to other men but do little to attract women.
