A 19-year-old man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon after police said he tried to run down his ex-girlfriend with his pickup truck in Ferndale.
Witnesses say David Vanarsdol and his ex-girlfriend were sending texts with each other when things apparently got heated. He wanted to go over to his ex's house to get some clothes, but it did not stop there.
Police said that is when Vanarsdol drove to where his ex-girlfriend was and drove off road, over the curb toward her, her new boyfriend and another girl.
The girl's 14-year-old sister witnessed everything and called 911.
"Oh my god! He just tried to run us over," she said in the 911 call. "He just drove away. He literally just tried to run me over."
She went on to tell the 911 dispatcher that no one was hurt.
"He was just trying to scare us I think," she said.
If convicted, Vanarsdol faces up to four years in prison.
