A 16-year-old Fraser High School student could be charged for making a gun threat that resulted in his arrest.
Police said the teen made comments about the end of the world coming on Friday and that he was going to shoot people. His fellow students reported it to the principal, who sent him home.
The teen was later arrested.
He could be charged with making a false report or making a threat of terrorism. The terrorism charge is a felony that carries up to 20 years in prison.
He is due in court Thursday afternoon.
Dozens of Mich. schools close amid threats, rumors
The Connecticut school massacre and doomsday scenarios based on the Mayan calendar have prompted the closing of dozens of Michigan schools for the rest of the year.
Many schools in Michigan were scheduled to have their last day of classes before the holiday break on Friday. But districts in Genesee and Lapeer counties posted announcements Wednesday evening canceling classes for Thursday and Friday.
Lapeer Community Schools says there have been numerous rumors circulating in the district and in nearby communities about potential threats.
Friday is supposedly when ancient Mayans prophesized the end of the world. Stepped-up police patrols are planned at some Detroit-area schools.
