Truck driver escapes serious injury in crash on I-94

Crash closes both lanes of interstate at Livernois for more than 5 hours

DETROIT – A semi-truck driver escaped serious injury early Thursday morning when he hit an overpass on I-94 in Detroit.

Michigan State Police said the semi-truck hit the median as it was going westbound near Livernois and jack-knifed -- which caused the cab to separate from the trailer. A fuel leak sparked a fire after the crash but rescuers were able to pull the driver to safety. He suffered only a broken leg.

The crash had both sides of I-94 completely shut down for more than five hours. Traffic started flowing again just before 11a.m.

The driver of the semi is employed by America's Transportation Resources.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and were not interviewed at the scene are asked to contact the MSP Metro Post at (248) 584-5740.
