(CNN) -- Authorities are not aware of any hostages involved, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff told reporters Tuesday. "The entire area is surrounded by law enforcement personnel," Cindy Bachman said. No one is allowed to go near the fire, including fire department personnel, she said. "There was active gunfire before the fire" between the suspect and law enforcement, she said. Bachman said she was not aware of any communications with the suspect.
