DETROIT -

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of a veteran K-9 deputy.

Ziva, a 7-year-old female Belgian Malinois, has died after being retired several weeks ago with medical issues, the Sheriff's Office said.

Ziva was involved in numerous drug finds and seizures and a variety of other findings including firearms and evidence. She also helped find and arrest dangerous individuals.

Ziva most recently helped save a life when she found a suicidal individual in a wooded area, the Sheriff's Office said.

Ziva spent five years with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.

She became a significant member of her handler Deputy Gerrod Visel's family.
