WATERFORD, Mich. -

On Tuesday, the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded two people through the ice on Scott Lake.  911 calls came into Waterford Emergency Dispatch at 1105.  Calls came in from the 3200 block of McCormick.

Firefighters from Rescue 2 arrived to find two adult men through the ice.  One was 150’ from shore and the other was 100’ from shore.  Firefighters dressed themselves in ice rescue suits and ropes to reach the two victims. 

The second crew from Engine 1 arrived in their ice rescue suites to assist the first crew in the water.

Both victims were rescued from the icy water by fire department personnel and Waterford Police officers working the ropes during the rescue.  A total of 4 firefighters were in the water for this ice rescue.  They used two boats found on shore to assist them. 

The 1st victim was transported to a local hospital.  The 2nd victim was treated and released on scene.  The 2nd victim fell through the ice when he tried to rescue the first victim after seeing him fall through the ice and into the lake.

One firefighter received an injury to his hand while working to rescue the victims.

The water was estimated to be just 15 degrees at the time of the rescue.

The rescue comes on the same day Groveland Township dive teams found the body of a fisherman underneath the ice on Hartwig Lake.

The 63-year-old victim went fishing Monday night and never returned home. His body was found just after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
