The intruder, Joseph Reiner, was tracked down in New Jersey before being brought back to Michigan to stand trial on charges of home invasion and assault with intent to murder.

Eisenhardt had been scheduled to testify in Reiner's trial, but health problems since the attack had prevented her from doing so.

Police said after Reiner attacked Eisenhardt, he made his way to a pawn shop in Eastpointe, where he reportedly pawned jewelry that was later traced back to Eisenhardt.

Wickersham said surveillance tape from a security camera shows Reiner leaving the pawn shop.

Prosecutors had said that if Eisenhardt died, they would pursue murder charges against Reiner. New charges have not yet been issued.
