Young weight lifters compete in Dearborn, Michigan

200 young competitors lift for titles at The National Youth Championships

DEARBORN, Mich. – America's top young lifters competed Friday at the 2012 National Youth Championships in Dearborn.

200 competitors from both weight class and age category competed for titles.

Reigning American record holders 75+ kg champion Marissa Klingseis from Missouri and 44kg champion Sydney Goad from Georgia will headline at the event.

Klingseis and Goad both set new American Youth weight lifting records for their own weight classes in the snatch, clean and jerk and total score categories at the 2012 National Junior Championships.

Klingseis now holds the record in all three categories in three different weight divisions including 58+kg (13-and-under),69+ kg and 75+kg (ages 16-17), while Goad holds the records in the snatch, C&J and total in the 44 kg weight division for all 14 to 15 year-olds.

Along with Klingseis and Goad, the National Youth Championships will see at least two more American record holders compete in this year's event.
