The Detroit Public Schools will receive $28,000 from AAA to help expand a volunteer program aimed at making sure students and their families make it safely to and from school.
AAA President and Chief Executive Chuck Podowski is expected to make the presentation Wednesday morning at Fisher Magnet Lower Academy on East State Fair.
The school is one of 14 in the "Safe Routes" program.
Volunteers, Detroit police and the school district's police force patrol around schools and bus stops before and after daily classes. The city also has been demolishing vacant houses around school buildings as part of the program.
