Accused drunken driver charged in fatal Mount Clemens crash

Oren Brown accused of hitting, killing Gayle Naiman

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A suspected drunken driver has been charged in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a St. Clair woman.

Oren Eker Brown, 39, of Clinton Township, was arraigned Tuesday on an operating while intoxicated causing death.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Brown is accused of running a red light at Groesbeck Highway and Cass Avenue in Mount Clemens last Saturday. His van hit a PT Cruiser being driven by 64-year-old Gayle Naiman.

She died at the scene.

Naiman was married, with two children and three grandchildren. She worked in Macomb County as a therapeutic massage therapist.

Her husband Paul Naiman says she "loved being with people and loved giving of herself." He told Local 4 the defendant should have taken responsibility for his drinking issues, and considering his two alcohol related convictions, should never have been allowed to drive again.

Brown was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment, but has since been released and is at the Macomb County Jail.

His bond was set at $300,000 or 10 percent.

Wickersham said Brown has two previous convictions for drunken driving crimes.
