DETROIT – Get ready for a brutally cold night and day ahead.
Actual temperatures will fall into the single numbers tonight with wind chills between 0 and 10 below by morning, so make sure the kids are dressed appropriately if they'll be waiting at the bus stop (or better yet, drive them to school or at least let them wait in your warm car until the bus comes).
It'll be windy on Thursday, with scattered areas of light snow possible, especially across the northern suburbs. Highs only in the upper teens, with wind chills near 0 through the day due to a southwest wind at 15 to 20 mph.

We still have some light snow chances on Friday, but the main event begins as we start our weekend. Today's computer models are starting to come into a little better agreement about Saturday's winter storm. Right now, it doesn't appear that all of the ingredients will come together to make this severe winter storm, but we will get some accumulation.
Heaviest snow totals (preliminarily, 4-5 inches) will likely be in Monroe County (and possibly Lenawee County), as you folks are farthest south and closest to the storm system, along with some snow enhancement possible from the east wind coming off of Lake Erie. Farther north, amounts will gradually diminish, with 1-3 inches likely being the average. Highs in the mid-20s.
After this, we should stay mostly below freezing right through the end of the month, so I think we'll keep the snow we get and have a White Christmas!
