Consumers Energy: Gas leak fixed in downtown Brighton

BRIGHTON, Mich. – A gas main break along Main Street between Grand River Avenue and 2nd Street in Brighton prompted the evacuation of nearby businesses and residents Wednesday evening.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): Consumers Energy said the leak is fixed and everyone will be allowed back in their homes and businesses soon.

Contractors mistakenly cut the gas line in a parking lot behind one of the businesses along Main Street near 2nd Street. That portion of Main Street was shut down to traffic for much of Wednesday evening.

The evacuations were made as a precaution.
