Arrest in Northville may end one-man crime spree

Man suspected in carjacking, kidnapping in Monroe

NORTHVILLE, Mich. – It all began Sunday afternoon at the Town Square Market in Monroe when a 32-year-old man hopped in a blue Buick Rendezvous -- which was left running -- and drove off with the woman's boyfriend's 2-year-old son sleeping in the back seat.

About 20 minutes later the man and the toddler were caught on surveillance video at Chapps Landing truck stop in Huron Township. The suspect left the boy in a restroom and continued on his way in the stolen Buick.

Fast forward to Tuesday morning at a home in the 500 block of River Street in Northville. That's where police got called to for a strange vehicle parked in the driveway. Neighbors were stunned to see all the police activity that followed.

Bob Bretz owns a business nearby.

"The cops had everything blocked off, wouldn't let us open, sent us all home. They said they had someone barricaded in the house over there. That was pretty much all the information they would give me," he said.

Inside the home police say they found a man who matched the description of the man who was reportedly squatting in the house on Monday. Northville officers made the arrest and soon after Monroe police connected the suspect to their kidnapping and carjacking case.

"We were able to approach the house and make entry and take the suspect into custody without incident," said
