Man charged with murder in South Rockwood 2-year-old's death

Boy rushed to hospital April 30, pronounced dead May 1, police chief says

SOUTH ROCKWOOD VILLAGE, Mich. – A man is charged with murder in the death of a 2-year-old South Rockwood boy, who medical examiners determined was killed by blunt force trauma.

Police said the boy was rushed to a hospital April 30 from a home in the Village Place Apartments to Oakwood Southshore Hospital. He was transferred to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, but died May 1.

A Wayne County medical examiner ruled his death a homicide by blunt force trauma.

Roger A. Schear is charged with homicide/open murder, child abuse first degree and two counts of child abuse third degree in connection to Caius Henry's death. Schear was taken into custody without incident at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The charge of homicide carries a max penalty of life in prison.

Jordan A. Henry, Caius' mother, has been charged with child abuse second degree by causing serious physical harm to her child by allowing Schear to care for him when she knew, or had reason to know, he was hurting the child. Her charge carries a max penalty of 10 years in prison.

Jordan Henry was taken into custody Wednesday at around 4:30 p.m.

Both are being held at the Monroe County Jail and was arraigned Thursday afternoon.
