A vacant home belonging to the Heidelberg project in Detroit burned down to the ground Friday.
The Obstruction of Justice house, one of the longest standing works of art by Detroit artist Tyree Guyton, was destroyed previously on May 3 in a suspected arson fire.
The house was created in 1995 in protest to the 1991 demolition of the two-block outdoor art scene that was ordered by then Mayor Coleman Young.
The organization issued a statement about the fire on Tuesday, saying in part, "Though you have tried, you cannot destroy the Heidelberg project; it's bigger than all of us now. Instead, we invite you to join our family in creating a better neighborhood, a better Detroit, if not for anyone else than for yourself."
Membersof the organization said the Heidelberg Project continues to be a symbol of what is possible when hope, passion and resilience abound.
Fire crews are investigating the cause of the fire.
