At least 1 person injured after explosion at Harrison Township apartment complex

Mount Clemens Fire Department: Some type of explosion happened at Beachwood Apartments

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – At least one person is injured and has suffered burns after an explosion at a Harrison Township apartment complex.

The Mount Clemens Fire Department confirmed that some type of explosion happened at the Beechwood Apartments, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The force of the explosion was so strong, police say the building had been knocked off its foundation.

The multi-unit complex is located on Clubhouse Lane near the area of I-94 and16 Mile Road. Officers from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department are on scene to provide traffic control.

Residents were evacuated and are not allowed back into the building until further notice. The Red Cross is coordinating assistance for the displaced residents.

Firefighters called the blaze a two alarm fire, but there is no word yet as to what caused the explosion.
