Authorities searching Lake St. Clair find body of missing swimmer

HARRISON TWP., Mich. – Macomb County Sheriff's deputies and the United States Coast Guard recovered the body of Craig Michael Moir late Friday night after an extensive search for the missing swimmer.

According to preliminary reports, the 30-year-old Minnesota man was on a 32-foot Sea Ray cabin-cruiser with four other people on Lake St. Clair when two people went swimming. The boat drifted away as they swam.

One of the swimmers was able to make it back to the boat but Moir was unable to make it back.

The USCG was notified at about 12:15 a.m. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Marine Division was notified at about 1 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies said the 32-year-old boat operator was allegedly under the influence. He was arrested and is being held in the Macomb County Jail.

The family of Moir has since been notified.
