Ban on bon fires, brush fires in effect in Orion Township

ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Until further notice, there is a burning ban on brush fires and bon fires in Orion Township.

The fire department issued a statement Monday saying camp fires would be allowed if burn permit guidelines were followed.

  • You must have a current permit
  • Your fire can be NO bigger than 24” in diameter 24” high.
  • Adequate means of extinguishment

If a fire gets out of control and the fire department must be called to extinguish it, the resident will be responsible for the cost of fire personnel, vehicles, damages and possible court costs -- which can reach into the thousands and loss of burning privileges.

The fire department says it cannot regulate or ban the use of personal fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday period, but warns residents to be cautious because of the dry conditions.
