Detroit police: Child safe after gunman let dogs loose on woman, prompting standoff

DETROIT – A barricaded situation was resolved Friday morning after a domestic violence call turned into a hostage situation on Detroit’s west side.

According to police, a woman went to pick her child up from the father’s home at Frisbee Street and Lenore Avenue, near 8 Mile and Telegraph roads, and the father refused to hand over the child.

He allegedly let several dogs out of the house to attack the woman. He allegedly fired a shot at the woman.

Authorities were called to the scene on a domestic violence call.

Police entered the home and the man was taken into custody.

The child was removed from the home and animal control took the dogs into custody.

The woman was taken to the hospital.

No other information was made available.
