the testimony is part of the preliminary hearing for Bob Bashara, who is charged with his wife Jane's 2012 murder.

Since Monday, the court has heard from Bashara's daughter, two of his ex-mistresses as well as a friend of Jane's and several investigators.

Jane Bashara was found strangled to death on Jan. 25, 2012, inside her SUV that was parked in a Detroit alley, a few miles from the couple's home in Grosse Pointe Park. She had been strangled.

Joseph Gentz, a handyman who worked for Bob Bashara, has pleaded guilty to killing her, saying he did so at her husband's behest.

Bob Bashara already is serving up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to hire someone to kill Gentz in jail. He's denied involvement in his wife's death, but could now stand trial on first-degree murder.

Inmate testifies about 'hits' Bashara wanted

Larry Ellington, who is locked up on a robbery conviction, said he shared a cell with Bashara at the Oaks Correctional Facility.

Ellington said Bashara talked to him about wanting "hits" on three people, Steve Tibaudo, Timothy Ramsey and Joe Gentz.

Bashara said he was upset that Tibaudo had wore a wire and turned over recordings of him that eventually led to him being charged.

"He said he needed to have Mr. Gentz taken care of before his competency hearing," Tibaudo said. "He said, 'This is my life. I have to have something done with Mr. Gentz.'"

Tibaudo had said he and Bashara talked about having the killing done for $20,000.

Ellington said when Bashara talked to him about the hits, he offered $5,000 or $10,000, but Bashara added that his money was tied up because of the investigation. He offered to put $50 on Ellington's prison account and said he would give a house to Ellington.

Ellington eventually wrote to his attorney and the Wayne County Prosecutor's office about what Bashara had asked him. He said Bashara called him out as a "rat."

Witness says he was paid to throw off investigators

Darryl Bradford, who is currently in the Wayne County Jail, said he was paid $20 to make a phone call saying he had information on the Jane Bashara murder.

Bradford said Paul Monroe, who was a tenant of Bashara's, asked him to give a fake tip that Monroe's ex-girlfriend and new boyfriend had something to do with the murder.
