Belleville High School teacher found dead in classroom
Teacher suffered heart attack; Classes resume for last day of school on Friday
Belleville High School was closed Thursday because of a teacher’s death.
Michael Caulk, 64, was found in his classroom after family members said he didn't come home Wednesday. His daughter said he had a heart attack.
"God gives us gifts. My dad was blessed with the gift of teaching. He was a history buff," said daughter Christa Caulk.
Caulk taught history at Belleville High for more than 10 years.
This is the third loss for the family in recent years. In 2011, Michael Caulk's 27-year-old son was killed in a car crash. Several weeks later his granddaughter died.
Belleville High School was scheduled to have final exams on Thursday. The district said it was still figuring out when those exams would be made up, but the last day of school will still be Friday.
There will be counselors at the school.
A Statement from Superintendent Mike Van Tassel:
Van Buren Public Schools Community lost a member of our educational family yesterday. He was a committed and dedicated teacher at Belleville High School.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, his current and former students, and the faculty who worked with him for so many years.
