Bernie Smilovitz

DETROIT – Bernie brings sports to metro Detroit on Local 4 News weekdays at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. He is well known for his "Weekend at Bernie's," and "Bernie's Bloopers", as well as his traditional "We've got highlights."

Bernie was born in Brooklyn. N.Y., and raised in Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland and started broadcasting sports at WDIV in 1986. Bernie and his wife Donna have two children.

Bernie loves all restaurants, especially those with drive-through windows. He jogs three to four miles a day and enjoys basketball and tennis.
Bernie's favorite book is "The Prince of Tides" and his favorite movie is a tie between "Animal House" and "E.T."

When asked about his most embarrassing broadcast moment, Bernie replied, "I'm still waiting for it. It could come at any moment."

Bernie's Proudest Professional Achievement: "Six local Emmys and I still have my hair."

The readers of Hour Detroit Magazine have awarded Bernie "Best Local Sportscaster" in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
