Bicyclist dies in traffic accident, family looks for community support

GoFundMe account created, fundraiser scheduled for Wednesday

DETROIT – The family of the bicyclist killed in Clinton Township is looking for support from the local community.

Kevin Wilson Blackshear, 22, of Harrison Township, was hit by a car on the morning of Feb. 19 and died while receiving treatment for his injuries.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account and is looking for donations to help pay the funeral costs.

A fundraiser is planned for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gina's Soul Food in Detroit on E. Warren Road.

A viewing will be held Friday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Peace Funeral Home on W. 7 Mile Road.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church on Linwood Street.

The accident happened as Blackshear crossed the eastbound lane of 15 Mile Road and was struck by a silver 2015 Chevy Malibu. The driver, a resident of Chesterfield, was also taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
