64-year-old Dennis Ryan killed in hit-and-run at Newburgh, Schoolcraft roads

LIVONIA, Mich. – Dennis Ryan was riding his bike home from his son's house Monday when he was hit by a car at Schoolcraft and Newburgh roads in Livonia.

The driver left him there to die.

"We're all in shock right now. We can't believe it," said Ryan's brother, Austin Ryan.

Austin said his brother loved to spend time with family.

"He had a son. He had five nieces and nephews. Everybody loved him," he said. "You are not going to find somebody with a bigger heart."

The 64-year-old rode his bike a few miles to his son's house Monday and never returned home. He was hit about 9:30 p.m. The driver kept their foot on the gas, leaving Ryan in the road.

He was rushed to the hospital by EMS where he was pronounced dead.

"I want to know why somebody wouldn't stop. They ran him over and left him there," said his brother.

As police search for the person involved in the crash, Austin finds some peace that his brother is now with their parents.

"He took care of my parents who were disabled for the last 10 years of their life. He did everything for my mom and father. He was their caregiver. He never got over how much he missed them," he said.

Police don't have a description of the vehicle involved in the crash. They're counting on tips from the public.

Anyone with information on this deadly hit-and-run is asked to contact the Livonia Police Department.
